Your intro to this reminded me of the verse I probably think about most often, Psalm 112:7: “He is not afraid of bad news; his heart is firm, trusting in the LORD.” Bono once introduced The Edge on stage as a “Zen Presbyterian.” While he probably didn’t mean it this way, I’ve always interpreted it as someone who is so secure in God’s sovereign care for him that he is at peace. Not a stoic who can’t get his feathers ruffled, but someone who truly believes that God has good in store for him, even when bad news arrives, and can rest in that reality. But I too keep that in my back pocket on the good days and easily forget it when the bad news arrives. I believe - Lord help my unbelief!
